kawehilani: Matt Bomer as Neal Caffrey in White Collar. For different TV shows (TV)

[personal profile] themadmermaid has mentioned Alcatraz in one of her posts, and I added it to my to-watch list and then downloaded the first two episodes without really planning to watch the series anytime soon.

But... I've just watched the pilot and I'm already watching the second episode and looking forward to watching the next one tomorrow! I can't say the show is brilliant (not quite my genre, actually), but it's gripping enough, and I like the characters. One thing that bothered me in the first episode, though, is that the criminals who are suddenly returned to the land of the living seem to cope with that just too well. As if they were somehow prepared just for that. But then, that FBI dude in charge hinted that there is more to all this (when he said that they must uncover just who told Sylvane to murder that guy with the mysterious key in his safe).

Oh, and it's nice to see, once in a while, a show set in a city different from New York and Los Angeles :) (IMDb says it was filmed in Vancouver, for the most part. All the same, a nice change of scenery.)

I also noticed that the show shares the same producer with Person of Interest - another show I'm enjoying these days.

Also spoiler-y.

I agree about the criminals being too... unconcerned with having travelled in time? That's not a very elegant way to put it but I guess it gets the point across.

I think that if the plot doesn't coalesce pretty quickly I might lose interest but so far it's a pretty good show. The third episode airs this week so it should be online sometime soon.

I wonder, and this is total speculation, if somehow the prisoners have been programmed on some level, while on other levels, they don't really know what's happened to them. For example, it makes sense that Sylvane would want revenge on the warden, but there's still no explanation of why he killed the second man, whose name escapes me. So maybe he was told to do so in some way by whoever arranged the disappearances in the first place?

I'm wondering also how the weird experiments and taking blood from inmates figures into all this. Hmmn. I am going to try to finish my chores for the evening and watch the next episode, since it's up on hulu!

I ended up watching the first two episodes today (you keep getting me started on things!) and I'm somewhat interested. Though I'm having trouble with Hauser - I keep wanting someone to punch him in the face and that's usually a sign a show isn't for me. It's the whole keeping secrets thing that is bugging me since it's obvious he knows more than he's telling.

On the other hand - this is another combination of my two favorite genres (science fiction and police drama) so I think I'll give it a chance for a few more episodes.

I'm not so bugged by the criminals being so unconcerned about the their time traviling - I think [personal profile] themadmermaid is right - they've been programed in some way. As long as they explain more at some point I'm okay with that part for now since I don't think it's any more strange than them all disappearing in the first place.

Yeah, long drawn out plot-lines are never my favorite - especially when the resolution ends up being a let down after all the hype and drama - it's the reason I gave up on White Collar a while ago.

For this show I think it's going to have to be pretty quick given I'm already vary annoyed with Hauser because he's hiding so much.

Kind of wish I could have kept watching but too much frustration with certain other plot points (and characters) was not conductive to happy viewing times. I don't like being frustrated by my entertainment!

Anyway - going to give Alcatraz a chance for a few more episodes! And The Finder! Did you see my post about that? Ended up watching that as well.

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me
Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me
There's no place I can be
Since I found Serenity
But you can't take the sky from me...
